ROUTINE SURGERY
APPOINTMENT REQUEST

 Routine Surgery Guidelines

Carter Veterinary Clinic performs routine surgery procedures Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings.

Anesthesia can make some pets nauseated and cause them to aspirate while intubated.  This is very dangerous.  As a result, we kindly ask that you do not provide any food to your pet after bedtime the night prior to your pet's surgery appointment. You may offer your pet sips of water as needed.  Bring your pet in on an empty stomach.

On the morning of your scheduled surgery, we will ask that you drop off your pet at Carter Veterinary Clinic between the hours of 8am-9am for surgery.

After surgery, your pet will stay in the hospital overnight so we can monitor your pet for any issues related to the surgery.

You will be able to pick your pet up from Carter Veterinary Clinic between the hours of 3pm-5pm the day after surgery.

If your pet has stitches, we will need to remove the stitches 10-14 days after surgery.  Please bring your pet in at your convenience for this procedure during our regular business hours.  There is no charge associated with stitch removal and the incision check by our staff.  Please note that ear trim, tail trim, declaw, and male cat neuters do not need stitch removal.

Please contact us immediately if you see any of the following at the surgical site:

-Continuous or excessive blood draining

-Intermittent blood seepage that continues for more than 24 hours

-Excessive swelling or redness of the skin

-Unpleasant odor or discharge

PLEASE REVIEW OUR NO-SHOW POLICY BELOW

-Any established patient who fails to show or cancels/reschedules a surgical appointment and has not contacted our office with at least 24 hours notice of the cancellation or reschedule request will be considered a no-show. Future surgical appointment scheduling requests will be evaluated by the staff of Carter Veterinary Clinic.  Time is set aside for your scheduled appointment and not showing up and not canceling within a reasonable time frame takes time away from other clients.

-Any new, unestablished client/patient that fails to show for their appointment or fails to change or cancel the appointment 24 hours in advance will not be rescheduled by Carter Veterinary Clinic in the future.
