PREVENTATIVE MEDICATIONS
At Carter Veterinary Clinic, we have a variety of medications in stock at our in-house pharmacy for the prevention of fleas and heartworms.
Non-Prescription products do not require wellness visits and can simply be picked up. The majority of the products are by prescription only. In order to be able to be prescribed flea and/or heartworm preventatives for your puppy or dog, we are required by law (USDA/FDA) to have performed a wellness visit within the past 12 months. We can only provide and fulfill prescription medication requests if your pet has had a wellness examination within the past 12 months. We are only allowed to provide medication for 12 months from the exact date of your pet's last wellness visit. If your pet has not had a wellness visit and you are interested in prescription products, please fill out our wellness appointment request form to schedule an appointment.
If you are interested in a medication that is not listed below, our online pharmacy provides all flea medications and prescription heartworm medications that are currently on the market.
NON-PRESCRIPTION FLEA CONTROL
No prior wellness appointment required. Non-prescription products listed below are available to all canines 7 weeks or older and weighing over 3lbs. If you need flea control for your dog or puppy, simply come by the office to pick up the size that you need. You do not need to be an established client and we do not require that your dog be a patient for this medication.

Non-prescription flea control that lasts 1 month. Sold over the counter WITHOUT an examination. Need flea control? Simply come pick it up!
Approved for use in dogs and puppies 7 weeks old or older and weighing at least 3 pounds.
What is Non-Prescription Crossblock II for Dogs?

Crossblock II is a topical flea treatment for dogs that kills adult fleas as well as their eggs and larvae.

It contains Imidacloprid and Pyriproxyfen, which are medications that start killing fleas within 2 hours and continue to work for 1 full month of protection

CrossBlock II also prevents re-infestation of fleas by breaking the life cycle and preventing fleas from reproducing.

This is a non-prescription product. We do not require that people purchasing this medication be established clients and we do not require a wellness examination prior to providing this medication

The products below are by prescription only to established patients with up to date wellness visits. In order to prescribe prescription medications for your pet, we are required to perform a wellness examination every 12 months. By rule of law from USDA and FDA, we can only prescribe prescription flea prevention medications for your pet for 12 months since your last wellness visit. We cannot provide more than 12 doses in a year. If your pet has not been in the office for a wellness exam within the past 12 months, we will require that your pet be seen in office prior to providing prescription medications. There are no exceptions according to the law for prescription products.

Carter Veterinary Clinic's in-house pharmacy only stocks the CHEWABLE Bravecto tablet that prevents fleas and ticks for THREE MONTHS. Why do we only offer the 3-Month Bravecto chewable instead of the 1-month chewable and the 3-mont topical? Dr. Carter has the most faith in a chewable, oral flea control. For dogs that get bathed frequently and play in the water frequently, a topical solution will lose its effectiveness over time. As a result, we do not carry the 3-month topical Bravecto treatment. The 3-month chewable is more expensive than the 3-month topical, but it ensures the best protection for all pets with and without water exposure. We don't currently stock the 1-month chewable because we have multiple other 1-month tablets that we stock. The price point of the Bravecto 1-month topical is higher than the other 1-month products we sale. The beauty of the Bravecto 3-Month Chewable tablet is its longevity and effectiveness over a 3-month time period. The 3-Month chewable Bravecto's price range is more inline with 3 doses of the single month products we stock.
