Dr. Carter grew up on a livestock farm in Ambrose, GA where he fell in love with animals of all kinds.  While young, he showed hogs and cows and was also an active participant in raising terriers and selecting limousine heifers and bulls to further his family's breeding farm. He attended the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine before coming back home and opening Carter Veterinary Clinic in Douglas in 1993. While at UGA, he served on the livestock judging team.

He has been married to his wife, Drew, for 20 years and together they have two young boys. As a family, they have been competing in American Kennel Club (AKC) horseback Field Trial Brittany events since 2006.  Dr. Carter is the owner, breeder, and trainer of the most nationally decorated Brittany Gun-Dog in AKC breed history.  National Gun Dog Champion and National Amateur Gun Dog Champion Peter Gunn was a staple at Carter Vet Clinic from 6 months old until the end of a long and healthy life.  
 
Dr. Carter maintains an active home kennel dedicated to the Brittany breed and provides private care and competition training for his adults and routinely has newborn puppies. Through personal experience at his home kennel, he has gained immeasurable practical knowledge of breeding, pregnancy, raising healthy puppies, and keeping adults in premium, healthy condition for a long and healthy life. Dr. Carter works and trains his competition dogs on his private timber plantation.  He is extremely experienced in wildlife management and health as well.
 
 Veterinary care isn't just an interest to Dr. Carter and his family, it is a lifestyle and passion that they feel extremely blessed to share together as well as with their clients and patients in the Coffee County community.
